      Birth and early life

      She was born Tiwatope Savage-Balogun on 5, February 1980 in Ikeja the capital of Lagos Nigeria. She hails from Isale Eko, in Lagos Island Local Development Council. At age 11, the family relocated to London. She grew up in a multicultural setting due relocations from Nigeria to London and then to the United States. No wonder she is more advanced in music than her peers. What compares to a perfect blend of talent, education and exposure?

      She had her high school and college education in London. She obtained a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent. At 27, she graduated with a degree from the Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts, United States where she was motivated by the younger students and the atmosphere. These educational qualifications gave her an edge over others when she got back to Nigeria and helped her to understand the Nigerian music industry.

      Music Career

      While in high school she played trombone for her school’s orchestra band. She did backup vocals for George Michael and assisted musicians like Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell and a host of others in vocals at the of 16. In 2006, still a student at berklee, she participated in the UK X-Factor but couldn’t make it to the final 12 stopping at the last 24, which was bad news for her at the time but she moved on undeterred by the failure and the challenge of stage fright she battled with at the time.

      In 2009, Sony/ATV Music signed her to a deal. The deal will see her write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia Barrino and Monica. Her collaboration with Fantasia on the song “Collard Greens & Cornbread” earned the American artist a Grammy nomination in 2010. Tiwa Savage wrote for lots of American artist while in the states including Jaicko’s “Oh Yeah” that featured Snoop Dogg, and Kat Deluna’s “Push Push” featuring Akon and David Guetta. She performed background vocals on Whitney Houston’s album “I look to you”.

      323 Entertainment

      She established her own record label, “323 entertainments” with her manager as at then and husband “Tee Billz”. In 2012 she joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin record after her manager cum husband decided to work together with Don jazzy. She started work on her debut studio album in 2010 but it was launched in 2013 due to some legal bottlenecks and her desire to make it a hit. She held her album listening party in May 2013 where she revealed the entire track list of the project and announced the artists she collaborated with.

      In July 3, the album was officially launched after all the myriads of hitches and long waits. She named it “once upon a time”. The brain behind the name was to inspire other upcoming artists never to be perturbed by setbacks, stating her as reference.
