She was born on March 13, 1989 in Abia State, Eastern Nigeria to James Alade her father of Yoruba descent and Helen Uzoma from the Igbo tribe. Her name is a blend of both tribes “Yemi Eberechi Alade”. She’s the fifth child out of seven children.

Education

She attended St. Saviors British Primary School, and then went further to Victory Grammar School, Lagos for her secondary education. She got admitted into the University of Lagos, where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Geography.

Her voyage to music stardom

She began her music career in an all-girl music group with the name “Noty Spices” in 2005. Was plucked out of obscurity into limelight in 2009 when she won the Peak Talent Show and that was the propelling force that brought her to the present fame and wealth she enjoys. She would later release her first official single “Fimisile” under the Jus’ Kiddin’ Label. The year 2012 saw her join the music label Effyzzie Music Group and birthed the “Ghen Ghen Love” single.

Still garnering momentum, in 2013, she shot the video for her romantic afro cum R&B song “Bamboo” and in the last lap of the same year she caused a record breaking musical tsunami with the release of “Johnny” produced by Selebobo. This song went viral and sent everyone agog. It saturated music charts not just in Nigeria, but in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Liberia, Uganda, and the United Kingdom.

The song was a fulfillment of the adage “the first shall be the last and the last, the first” as it became song of the year, regardless of its late entry. She later released the video with veteran cinematographer Clarence peter in March 2014. It had over 32million views on YouTube as at December of 2015.

Local and International Performances

She has headlined the Super Diva’s Nite at the Calabar International festival in 2013. Joined popular arts M.I, Waje, Burna Boy and Timi Dakolo in singing the theme song for Port Harcourt, the UNESCO 2014 World Book Capital. She has performed alongside with Mary J. Blige Shina Peters, M.I, Waje, Wizkid, and Yemi Sax.

She opened for the Headies 2013 an award which is the highest in the land when it comes to music showbiz.
