This article is to explain to you how to apply for India student Visa From Nigeria, without stress and risk of anything.

How to Apply for India Student Visa

Over the years, India has successfully abandoned its years of war and struggles and has grown to become one of the world’s most visited destinations for Business, Computer and Information Technology related operations and Medical Solutions.

For you to be part of this trend, you will need a visa to get into India. Just keep reading.

1. Choose the Category of India Visa

The visa you will apply for will determine how your journey will be in India. The basic different types of Visas that you can apply for include tourist visas, business visas, student’s visas and other specialized types of Visas. I am just going to explain briefly. As a tourist in India, you are only allowed to stay for six months before you are expected to return to Nigeria.

To apply for a business visa to India, you need a statement written on a letter headed paper by the company you are traveling to do business with in India, showing that they are ready to incur maintenance cost, the length of period you would stay with them and how your expertise applies to their business.

Student Visa

The Indian student visa is issued to a visa applicant who intends to undergo educational study in India. Student visas are short-term visas usually ranging from 3 months to 3 years (PH.D) that allows a person to visit and stay in India for the total time duration of the educational course applied for at the Indian institution, college or university.

This is the type of visa you will need to apply for since your mission in India is to study. This gives you a permission to study in their higher institution the course of your choice.

How to apply for India student Visa from Nigeria is the reason why you are here and that is what I will discuss below.

2. Meet the Application Requirements

Requirements are things you must satisfy and have in other for your application to be considered. You should pay attention to the following requirements below.

The India student visa must be applied for in person at the India high commission in Lagos. Someone cannot go on your behalf and somebody cannot represent you. The visa and immigration application requirements include the following:

3. Get an International Passport

This is the number one thing you need. You can learn how to renew or apply for a Nigerian International passport here. You will need a valid one.

An international passport valid for at least 6 months after your intended stay in the country, it must have at least two blank pages.

4. Capture your Bio Data

The biodata format includes relevant factual information about an individual, such as: personal information (e.g date of birth, gender, marital status, religion, height, complexion, father’s name, etc.) educational background.

This bio data form is already inside your international passport. All you just need to do is make a photocopy of this page.

5. Get Passport photographs

Two passport photographs of the size 50 mm X 50 mm (2 inch x 2 inch) with white background, Passports should be glued on your visa application forms in the box provided on pages 1 and 2. You don’t want to use an old passport photograph. Make sure it’s a recent one and not the one you used back then somewhere.

6. Fill the Online Visa Application Form

A duly completed online visa application form. The forms should be signed in the box under the photograph on page 1 and at the end of page 2. Your signatures should match with the signature printed on your passport. Click here to begin

7. Provide Contact Details

Applicants must provide their own contact details including e-mail address, visa application will be refused if false.

8. Get Admission Letter

Original copy of university admission letter duly signed and stamped from an Indian university, institution or college indicating provisional admission into a full time course of study.

You cannot start your application unless a school already offered you an admission

9. Submit Education Qualifications

Copies of the student visa applicants previous education qualification. WAEC senior school certificate, university transcripts, bachelor degree certificate, diploma, etc.

10. Provide Birth Certificate

A copy of the visa applicants’ birth certificate

11. Provide Financial Proof

Letter of financial support from the applicant’s parents or guardian inclusive of a government issued ID card and a certified bank account statement of last three months issued by the parents/guardian’s bank in his/her name. Which will state ability to afford all tuition and living expenses in India for the total duration of the educational study. In the case of sponsorship, a letter of financial consent properly addressed, stamped and signed by the sponsor. Along with a copy of his/her government issued identity Card or international passport should be attached.

12. Vaccination Certificate

Yellow fever, polio, IPV vaccination certificate for all applicants except infants under six months.

13. Visa Payment Receipt

Receipt of visa fee payment of $252.00 (N80,640) including surcharge of $2.00 (N640). This is only accepted at the Sterling Bank counter in the Indian High Commission premises in Abuja or Lagos.

Note that the consulate will not refund the visa fees, so do not conclude travel arrangements until you’re issued a visa.

14. Provide Evidence of Funds

Evidence of funds transfer sufficient for 4 months stay in India, this could be in the form of a traveler’s cheque or transfer into an Indian bank account in the visa applicants name.

The Consular Officer at his own discretion might ask for additional documents during the interview, ensure that you can easily provide them.

India Visa Application Process

Now, I will take you through the process step by step.

The visa application process includes five stages such as;

  • 1. Log on to Indiavisaonline, fill your online visa application form and print out form. You want to be sincere and fill with all honesty. Don’t give a false information or try to play smart.
  • 2. Pay your India student visa application fee of $252 at the Sterling Bank counter in the Indian High Commission in Lagos. The fee is not refundable.
  • 3. Submit your application form and all supporting documents to the consular officer at the Indian High Commission in Lagos. Remember you have to go in person.
  • 4. Attend your visa interview and provide extra documentation if needed. Just be yourself and be honest.
  • 5. Collect your passport/visa from the Indian High Commission

Visa application submissions are between 10:00AM to 12:00AM on all working days.
