Having the right understanding about something you are about to do is always the best because the basic knowledge you have will save you of unnecessary stress and sometimes save you some money.

In my previous articles, I already talked about how apply for a Visa to study in US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa and some other Countries. This article is not about how to work in Dubai or how to work and travel to Canada. It is an article that will show you how to apply for Netherlands student Visa from Nigeria easily from start to finish.

Important Information About Netherlands

I am going to be sharing an important thing below, so please pay attention.

The Netherlands embassy doesn’t accept applications directly in Nigeria and some other West African countries. Don’t panic they have made a provision for that.

If you are a Nigerian applicant, Netherlands has signed an agreement allowing other Schengen country embassies issue Schengen visa on their behalf.

Schengen countries don’t have control of boarders, so you can enter any of the. Schengen zone without a Visa.

Applications through the Belgian Embassy in Abuja

Nigerians or other nationals should submit their application through the Belgian embassy located in Abuja if they are residing in one of the following states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kastina, Kebbi, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, FCT Abuja, Yobe, Zamafara.

Netherland visa applications through the French consulate-general in Lagos

If your state is not mentioned above with the lists of areas that should apply at the Belgian embassy, should submit their application through the French consulate-general in Lagos.

Please note that Netherlands embassy cannot assist with any application for visa except you go through the designated proxy embassy above.

How to Apply for Netherlands Student Visa

I am just going to explain below how to apply for Netherlands student Visa from Nigeria step by step guide from start to finish. make sure you read to the end.

1. Download the Application Form

Firstly, you have to download the application form, fill it completely and with sincerity. You have to be as honest as possible you can be, you don’t want to put a false information or play to play smart.
You can also fill the Netherlands Schengen Visa application form electronically and then print a hard-copy.

2. Take Passport Photograph

You will need 2 photos which must be attached; the photo should be of passport format, a recent whole-face capture with a light background. Remember it have to be a recent photograph.

3. Get International Passport

You should know by now that you cannot enter most countries without your international passport. You can read my article about how to apply for a Nigerian International Visa from Nigeria.

Your passport and copies of your previous visas. You passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond return date. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.

4. Ticket Reservation

A copy of your return-ticket reservation. It is not recommended to purchase the ticket before obtaining the visa. You should make sure you secure a Visa before paying for the ticket.

5. A Travel Visa Insurance

Travel Visa Insurance confirmation of minimum 30,000 € coverage within the Netherlands and the entire Schengen area must be made available.

6. A Cover Letter

A cover letter stating the purpose of a visit to the Netherlands and itinerary.

7. Proof of Accommodation

Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of the intended stay in the Netherlands. Most times, the institution you are studying in will cover this. You should pay attention and make enquiries from the institution before proceeding.

8. Civil Status

Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable)

9. Financial Status

Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in the Netherlands. You bank or sponsor bank statement of account. Your bank account statement for the last 6 months duly endorsed by the Bank.

10. Proof of Enrollment

You will have to proof that you actually enrolled in an institution to study what you want to study.

11. Admission Documents

No-objection certificate from school or university because it is very important. You can’t start seeking admission when you get to Netherlands, you must have been offered an admission before you start applying for a student Visa.

Full Process of Netherlands student Visa Application

After the collation of all the required documents, you’re to submit the completed visa application form to the appropriate visa application center in your area and on your appointment date.

  • Ensure that you duly signed and dated the visa application form.
  • Make sure that all the required documents you’re submitting are completed, up-to-date, and genuine.
  • Pay the visa application processing fee plus other charges applicable at the visa application center, and attach the payment acknowledgement slip.
  • Submit yourself for biometric fingerprint at a section of the Visa application center.
  • Be prepare for visa interview if necessary.
  • Ensure you use an active Email address, it is the only channel of communication between the embassy and you.
  • Submit your application well ahead of your travel to allow the embassy complete the visa processing without disappointment.

Visa processing period takes between 2 to 4 weeks. It can also take up to two months depending on the nature of your application.
